J.R. Smith has been ordered to stay away from a woman who accused him of assault following an alleged domestic violence incident in Texas.

A judge signed an emergency protective order on September 29, prohibiting Smith from contacting the alleged victim or coming within 1,000 feet of her home or workplace. The 41-year-old is also barred from possessing firearms or ammunition.

The restrictions stem from an alleged incident in mid-September, when Smith reportedly “intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly” caused bodily injury to a woman by hitting, grabbing or pushing her.

The alleged victim has not been publicly identified but was described as either a member of Smith’s household or someone he was dating.

Smith was arrested on September 28 in Royse City, Texas, after a police license plate reader identified his vehicle. He was charged with one count of assault causing bodily injury involving family violence.

The former NBA champion spent the night in jail before being released on a $5,000 bond.

Smith has not publicly addressed the allegations, although his attorney previously said he was eager to resolve the situation.

The protective order remains in effect until December 29. The California Post first reported its details.
