The Minnesota Timberwolves secured their fourth consecutive win on Wednesday night, overcoming the Phoenix Suns 121-113. Anthony Edwards scored 33 points, guiding the Timberwolves to a hard-fought victory after trailing for most of the game.
Minnesota, who faced the Suns in the first round of last year’s playoffs, was sluggish in the first half. The Timberwolves trailed 59-55 at halftime, with Phoenix’s Devin Booker contributing 18 points. Despite the deficit, Edwards and Julius Randle, who added 28 points, rallied the team in the second half.
The Timberwolves surged ahead late in the third quarter, claiming an 81-77 lead. Nickeil Alexander-Walker was instrumental in the fourth, sinking three 3-pointers early in the period. Alexander-Walker finished with 23 points, shooting 5-for-10 from beyond the arc. His efforts helped the Timberwolves extend their lead to 10 points, putting the game out of reach for the Suns.
Phoenix’s offensive struggles were evident in the third quarter, where they managed just 18 points on 7-of-22 shooting. Kevin Durant led the Suns with 33 points, while Booker added 28 and Bradley Beal chipped in 17. However, Phoenix’s 16 turnovers contributed to their undoing. The Suns’ three-game winning streak came to an end with the loss.
The Timberwolves shot a remarkable 56% from the field, with Randle and Edwards leading the charge. Despite playing without forward Naz Reid (illness) and guard Donte DiVincenzo (toe sprain), Minnesota’s offensive efficiency proved key.
Coach Chris Finch, who was ejected in the third quarter after receiving two technical fouls, saw his team fight back without his presence on the sidelines.
The Suns, despite a solid first half, could not regain momentum in the second half. Durant’s 33-point performance wasn’t enough to stop the Timberwolves’ late push. Phoenix also struggled with fouls, finishing the game with 25 personal fouls, which hindered their defensive efforts.
The Timberwolves’ victory improves their record to 26-21, while the Suns drop to 24-22.
