Charles Bassey stepped up big for the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday after Zach Collins and Keldon Johnson were forced to leave the game with injuries in the first half, according to Jeff McDonald of The San Antonio Express-News.
Bassey delivered a stellar performance, matching his career-high with 18 points in just 16 minutes of play. He also contributed 11 rebounds and four blocks, helping to fill the void left by the injured players.
Mitch Johnson, the interim coach of the Spurs, praised Bassey’s impact on the game, noting his ability to provide a spark when needed.
“He played the role that we need him to in terms of energy, activity, physicality, athleticism,” Johnson said. “When he does that, the basketball finds him and he makes plays on both ends.”
Bassey has played 4 seasons in the NBA, split between the San Antonio Spurs and the Philadelphia 76ers. Throughout 92 regular-season games, he has averaged 4.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, and contributed defensively with his presence in the paint.
