Charles Bassey on Warriors debut, energy, and chemistry with Stephen Curry

Charles Bassey shared his thoughts following the Golden State Warriors’ 110-105 win over the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday at Chase Center.

The big man highlighted the adjustment period and early chemistry with his new teammates. “Oh, I mean, it’s been great, man. It’s been a good three days. Last game was great. Today, even better. But it’s been great just meeting the guys, talking to Steve and everything. It’s been good,” Bassey said.

The Warriors are exploring ways to leverage Bassey’s athleticism in the frontcourt. “That’s one of my talents. That’s why they brought me here. But, I mean, they just tell me just go out there and do what I do, you know, do what got me here. So, just like I said, man, just dunking, blocking shots, running the floor. So, you know, I’m just trying to do that every game,” he added. His highlight plays on both ends, including dunks and blocks, offered a spark as Golden State snapped a four-game losing streak.

Bassey also emphasized the impact of playing alongside Stephen Curry. “No, it was great, man. It never changes, man. Like you said, Steph attracts a lot of players, man. Like that’s who he is. That’s going to keep going on if he keeps playing. So, I mean, that’s who he is. So, we as a big, we just got to get ready just to catch the lob and just finish up, find the extra outlet. So, it’s been it’s been great playing with him, man. It’s been fun. It’s been really fun,” he explained. Curry contributed 17 points and two crucial four-point plays in his second game back from a knee injury.

The 7-foot-1 center also spoke about focusing on his energy and contributions heading into the play-in tournament. “I just do what I do every night. Just coming and just giving the team great energy. That’s what they want from me every night, no matter how many minutes I play. And just going out there and just give everything I got, you know, and just helping them win. And hopefully we win the play-in game and get to the playoffs. It’s been fun to watch,” Bassey said.

Bassey’s debut performance included 14 points, 12 rebounds, and three blocks over 27 minutes, complementing Golden State’s balanced attack. De’Anthony Melton led the team with 21 points, while Brandin Podziemski added 20. Sacramento rookie Maxime Raynaud posted 17 points and eight rebounds, but the Kings could not halt the Warriors’ momentum as Golden State prepares for Thursday’s matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers.
