FC Barcelona has secured Chimezie Metu for the upcoming season, marking his first venture outside the United States.
The 27-year-old power forward and center will join the Spanish club on a contract through June 30, 2025.
Metu arrives as a free agent after his stint with the Detroit Pistons last season, where he averaged 10.5 points, 6 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game.
This move adds to Barcelona’s roster overhaul, with Metu being the fourth new signing after Kevin Punter, Justin Anderson, and Juan Nunez.
Born in Los Angeles, Metu represented Nigeria in the Tokyo Olympics.
He began his college career with the USC Trojans before being drafted 49th overall by the San Antonio Spurs in 2018.
Metu’s NBA journey included stints with the Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns before he was traded to the Pistons.
