Lauri Markkanen leads in scoring as Jazz dominate Spurs

Lauri Markkanen guided the Utah Jazz (27-31) to a decisive 128-109 victory over the struggling San Antonio Spurs (11-47) on Sunday night.

Markkanen scored team-high 26 points, leading the Jazz’s offensive charge alongside Jordan Clarkson, who contributed 22 points and 10 assists in a well-rounded effort.

The win snapped a five-game losing streak for the Jazz, providing a much-needed boost as they aim to secure a spot in the Western Conference play-in tournament, now trailing the Golden State Warriors by just three games.

Despite a resilient effort from San Antonio, led by Devin Vassell’s 27 points and Victor Wembanyama’s 22 points and 10 rebounds, the Spurs struggled to contain Utah’s offensive onslaught, dropping their 11th game in their last 12 outings.

The Jazz took control early, building a commanding 24-point halftime lead fueled by Markkanen’s scoring burst and stout defense that limited the Spurs to just 39 first-half points.

San Antonio attempted a comeback in the fourth quarter, trimming Utah’s lead to single digits, but the Jazz responded emphatically, reestablishing their dominance with timely baskets and stifling defense to secure the victory.
