Former NBA player JJ Redick recently made headlines with his criticism of Milwaukee Bucks head coach Doc Rivers, and Draymond Green has weighed in, siding with Redick’s sentiments.

In a recent episode of The Draymond Green Show, Green echoed Redick’s sentiments, highlighting Rivers’ tendency to deflect accountability and make excuses during interviews.

“I saw JJ apologizing and said ‘Listen, my tone, I looked a little hot and my tone could have been better, but I’m not apologizing for what I said. I meant every word that I said.’ And I agree with JJ,” Green stated.

Green expressed his agreement with Redick’s critique, emphasizing the importance of accountability in coaching and leadership roles.

The four-time NBA champion pointed out Rivers’ pattern of making excuses in interviews, suggesting that this approach is counterproductive and fails to address the team’s underlying issues.

“When I been watching these Doc interviews, ‘These guys were in Cabo,’ ‘Something didn’t go right,’ ‘It’s only been two days.’ Every interview is another excuse. And that just can’t work. Like, you knew what you were signing up for Doc,” he said. “You took over a team through the halfway mark of the games of the season, if I’m not mistaken.

Rivers, who took over the coaching position mid-season, has faced scrutiny for the team’s recent performance, with the Bucks posting a 3-7 record in their last 10 games. It has improved to 4-7 with the win over the Western Conference leaders the Minnesota Timberwolves.

“3-7 in the last 10. You can’t go make excuses now because you were actually brought in to fix those very things,” Green continued. “And so you can’t come and make the same excuses of the things that we already knew. Because if that’s the case, then you couldn’t really accept the job with all that money that they gave you.”

According to Green, Rivers’ role as head coach comes with the responsibility of addressing and resolving the team’s challenges, rather than deflecting blame onto external factors.
