Draymond Green responds to Kevin Durant’s GOAT claim

Kevin Durant, the Phoenix Suns’ two-time NBA champion, challenged the traditional narrative by questioning why his name isn’t part of the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) conversation, typically dominated by Michael Jordan and LeBron James.

Reflecting on his illustrious career, Durant boldly asserted his belief that he deserves consideration in the GOAT debate, emphasizing his accomplishments and impact on the game.

Durant’s career numbers are 27.3 points, 7 rebounds, and 4.4 assists in 36.7 minutes per game, showcasing his consistent elite performance.

Responding to Durant’s comments, his former teammate Draymond Green shared his perspective on The Draymond Green Show, suggesting that Durant must achieve what Steph Curry did in leading the team to the 2022 NBA championship to enter the GOAT conversation.

According to Green, Curry didn’t receive the credit he deserved until the 2022 championship, where he was the clear leader and Finals MVP.

“Steph didn’t get the credit that Steph gets today until 2022 when he led this team to a championship and won finals MVP,” Green emphasized.

Green argued that to be in the GOAT conversation, Durant needs to showcase leadership in challenging situations, similar to Curry’s pivotal role in the 2022 championship run.

“The team isn’t going to always be the most perfect. Our 2022 team sure wasn’t the most perfect team. But when it was time, and by the way, guys contributed in a major way… People stepped up and did their thing, but like you’re not going to go back to that team and compare it to any of our other championship rosters and be like ‘Yeah, that’s it.'”

“But we went and got it done and in large part when all else was failing, Steph said ‘All right fellas, come on let’s go there.’ Period. That’s how he got to that conversation. So for me, you got to do that first,” Green said.
