Former NBA player Antonio Daniels has weighed in on the recent reports surrounding Malcolm Brogdon’s discontent with the Boston Celtics’ earlier trade discussions.

In an interview on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Daniels offered his perspective on the situation, emphasizing the importance of understanding the business aspect of the NBA.

“Guys deal with this all the time. ‘You’re here. You’re not here. I’m happy. You’re on the trading block, you’re not on the trading block.’ I get it,” Daniels acknowledged. “But as an organization, you have to do what’s in your best interest, and it’s your job as a player to adjust to that.”

Drawing from his own experiences in the league, Daniels highlighted the unpredictable nature of NBA trades. “I played on teams where a player got traded, he was gone, and then the trade didn’t go through, and he came back the next day. How do you think that feels? You know what I mean? It happens. That’s a part of the NBA.”

Daniels stressed the necessity for players like Brogdon to recognize the business-first reality of the league. “If I’m Malcolm Brogdon, I have to understand this. I’m not saying I have to like it, but it has to be something that I’m at a point now that I should understand this is what the NBA is.

“It’s amazing how guys struggle with grasping that concept. It’s a business first. It’s a business before anything else.”

He further explained, “A business part is understanding, ‘Yeah, I do like it here, I love it here, man. It’s a great city, it’s a great situation. Fans have taken to me.’ But also, I have to understand on the flip side that my situation can change like that. That’s the business side of it.”
