Houston Rockets guard Kevin Porter Jr. was arrested and charged with assault and strangulation following an incident at a New York hotel on Monday morning, as confirmed by a spokesperson from the New York City Police.
During the NBA’s ongoing investigation, the Rockets cannot impose immediate penalties on Porter, including suspension. According to the league’s domestic violence policy, Commissioner Adam Silver can temporarily place Porter on paid administrative leave for a reasonable duration.
Depending on the investigation’s outcome, the commissioner has the authority to fine, suspend, dismiss, or disqualify a player from any further involvement with the league and its teams if they violate the domestic violence policy.
While the NBA is conducting its own investigation, the Houston Rockets aren’t allowed to administer any immediate punishment on Kevin Porter Jr., including a suspension. https://t.co/jiKnxBbNtP
