In a heartwarming video message, 27-year-old NBA star Karl-Anthony Towns expressed his excitement about returning to represent his roots, the Dominican Republic, in the highly anticipated FIBA World Cup.

Towns, who last represented the Dominican Republic at the FIBA AmeriCup in 2013, conveyed his immense pride in donning the national jersey once again.

“I’m so proud to be saying I’ll be suiting up soon and representing my roots, the Dominican Republic, again. It’s always been bigger than the game – representing my mother’s country, my country, the Dominican Republic,” he emphasized.

With impressive stats of 20.8 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game for the Timberwolves last season, Towns’ presence on the court will undoubtedly be a force to be reckoned with during the World Cup.

Joining Towns in this exciting journey are two esteemed players, adding depth and experience to the roster. NBA veteran Al Horford brings his wealth of expertise to the table, having previously played alongside Towns for the Dominican Republic at the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in 2012.

Meanwhile, rising star Chris Duarte, fresh from a standout rookie season with the Pacers, is eager to showcase his talent on the global stage. Duarte’s recent appearance in the national team’s games during the Americas Qualifiers exemplified his potential, making him a valuable asset in the World Cup campaign.

The Dominican Republic, led by this formidable trio, will kick off its FIBA World Cup campaign in Group A, facing off against Angola, Italy, and co-hosts Philippines.
