Karl-Anthony Towns, Al Horford highlight Dominican Republic’s preliminary FIBA World Cup roster

The Dominican Republic has officially unveiled its preliminary roster for the highly anticipated 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, featuring a formidable lineup that includes NBA standouts Karl-Anthony Towns and Al Horford.

The 30-player list also includes the promising talent of Chris Duarte, forming a dynamic trio of NBA players set to represent their country on the international stage.

Towns averaged 20.8 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game for the Timberwolves last season. Towns previously represented the Dominican Republic at the FIBA AmeriCup in 2013 and expressed his eagerness to join the national team once again, emphasizing his desire to compete on the global stage.

Joining Towns is the esteemed NBA veteran, Al Horford, who brings a wealth of experience to the roster. Though he did not participate in the 2013 AmeriCup, he previously played alongside Towns for the Dominican Republic at the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in 2012.

Completing the trio is the rising star Chris Duarte, fresh off an impressive rookie season with the Pacers. The 26-year-old averaged 13.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. Duarte’s recent appearance in the national team’s games during the Americas Qualifiers showcased his talent and potential, making him a valuable asset in the World Cup campaign.

The Dominican Republic will start its FIBA World Cup campaign in Group A alongside Angola, Italy, and co-hosts Philippines.
