Since his trade to the Cavaliers on September 1, 2022, Donovan Mitchell has been an integral part of the team’s lineup, delivering impressive performances on the court.

During his first season with the Cavaliers, the 26-year-old shooting guard averaged 28.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.4 assists in 35.8 minutes per game, helping the team secure a fourth-place finish in the Eastern Conference.

However, despite his contributions to the team’s success, some NBA insiders believe that the chances of Mitchell signing a contract extension with the Cavaliers are slim. ESPN’s Tim Bontemps expressed doubts about the possibility, stating on The Hoop Collective Podcast that he doesn’t think Mitchell will extend his contract with the Cavs.

“I don’t think there’s any chance he signs an extension there ever, and if it was up to me I would trade Donovan Mitchell today,” Bontemps said, via Dhani Joseph of New York Post.

As Mitchell’s current contract runs through the 2025-26 season, the basketball world will be closely monitoring his decision on whether to pursue an extension with the Cavaliers or explore other options in the future.
