Steph Curry details ‘complex’ connection with LeBron James

Both Stephen Curry and LeBron James are entangled with each other forever as they defined the NBA’s modern rivalry.

From 2015 to 2017, Curry’s Golden State Warriors alongside the Cleveland Cavaliers of James have been consistent participants of the NBA Finals – a tradition that wasn’t attained by two other teams from the past.

“It’s going to be really hard to find two teams going four years in a row in a Finals, just the way the NBA landscape is going,” Curry told Sports Illustrated’s Robin Lundberg (h/t Daniel Chavkin). “That’ll go down in history as four amazing years.”

Beyond their competitive considerations with each other, Curry believes that his relationship with James is complicated.

Complex in a way that their storied connection started when he was just an up-and-coming prospect while James was already an established NBA superstar.

It was notable that James expressed his support for Curry’s majestic campaign for Davidson College during the 2008 March Madness.

“It’s complex, because you go from me playing in the tournament, him coming to watch to me coming in as a young rookie in the league and he giving me advice on how to get through some of the early struggles I was going to go through as a player, to the four finals appearances in a row,” Curry said.

At the end of the day, Curry got nothing but respect for James as they both continued to write stories for themselves. Both superstars met in the last postseason for another saga of their historic rivalry, and James went on to emerge as a victor alongside his Los Angeles Lakers troops.

“He’s a great dude, great friend, great competitor,” Curry said. “It’s amazing to go back to look at where it all started, in Ford Field and a Sweet Sixteen game.”
