In a recent report by Sarah Todd on deseret.com, it has been revealed that the Utah Jazz are willing to give Luka Samanic a chance to showcase his abilities in the upcoming season.
Samanic, who was drafted 19th overall in 2019, faced a challenging two years within the Spurs’ system, with limited NBA minutes and multiple G League assignments. However, he has acknowledged his shortcomings, including a lack of maturity, confidence, and work ethic during his early NBA career.
Since then, Samanic has dedicated himself to personal growth, spending time in the G League to reflect and develop a reputation as a hardworking player who understands the value of an NBA roster spot.
Even without the presence of Lauri Markkanen in Utah, Samanic has been diligently working on his dribbling, shooting, and becoming a more versatile defender. He recently had the opportunity to train alongside Markkanen during his short stint in Utah this summer, which Samanic eagerly utilized to enhance his skills.
Team sources have indicated that the Jazz recognize Samanic’s potential and are willing to give him a chance this upcoming season. With his age, height, length, and untapped potential, Samanic has piqued the interest of the Jazz organization.
During the 2022-23 season, Samanic made appearances in only seven NBA games for the Jazz, averaging 9.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 23 minutes per game. To date, the 23-year-old forward has played in a total of 43 NBA games, with averages of 4.8 points and 2.5 rebounds in 12 minutes per game.
