The EuroLeague is set to add a new twist to its playoff race with the introduction of the Play-In Showdown for the upcoming 2023-24 season. This Play-In tournament will provide teams ranked from seventh to 10th with the opportunity to secure the final two spots in the EuroLeague Playoffs.

Under the new format, the seventh- and eighth-place teams will engage in a single game battle to earn a place in the quarterfinals, where they will face the regular season’s second-ranked team.

Similarly, the ninth- and 10th-place teams will clash in a single game, with the losing team being eliminated from playoff contention. The winner of this game will then challenge the defeated seventh- or eighth-place team for the last playoff spot, ultimately being paired with the top-ranked regular-season team.

All games in the Play-In Showdown will be hosted by the team with the better regular-season finish, adding an element of home-court advantage to the mix.

This new tournament format provides an advantage to the seventh- and eighth-place teams, as they only need to win one game to secure a spot in the quarterfinals. In contrast, the ninth and 10th-place teams must win twice to advance or face elimination.
