According to Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report, the Clippers are keen on bringing back Russell Westbrook for the upcoming season, hoping to secure his services at a hometown discount.

The team aims to sign the former MVP for a year, offering him $3.8 million to be paid next summer using their Early Bird Rights, similar to the deals struck with Nicolas Batum and Reggie Jackson.

Westbrook’s journey during the 2022-2023 season saw him traded by the Lakers to the Jazz on February 9 in a three-team deal involving the Timberwolves. Shortly after, he reached a contract buyout agreement with Utah on February 20, before signing with the Clippers on February 22. The 34-year-old point guard became an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

During the regular season, Westbrook averaged 15.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 7.6 assists in 30.2 minutes per game for the Clippers. In the playoffs, he elevated his performance, recording 23.6 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 7.4 assists in 38.4 minutes across five games.
