Ricky Rubio admits that his time in the NBA is already ticking now.

The veteran point guard appeared in an interview recently with Liga Endesa and has expressed his reflective thoughts of soon leaving the league.

“My idea when I left Europe to play in the NBA is to come back one day. I don’t know where I’ll be mentally and physically, and if I’ll still want to keep playing, but yeah my NBA days are coming to an end,” he said.

In late May, Rubio already expressed his desire to see himself back playing in Barcelona, where he started his career as a promising Spanish prospect.

Rubio, 32, still has two years left in his current contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He is set to earn $6.1MM next season, but he is only partially guaranteed in 2024-25.

He only played 33 games this year as he returned from his ACL recovery and accepted a minimal role under coach J.B. Bickerstaff, averaging 5.2 points, 3.5 assists, and 2.1 boards.

From his recent words, this could potentially hint that his current contract with the Cavs is the final deal he’ll honor in the NBA. He played 12 seasons in the NBA and has played with three other different teams outside of Cleveland.
