According to NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, JJ Redick has interviewed for the Raptors coaching job. Redick, a retired NBA player and current ESPN analyst, met with franchise leadership in Toronto during the team’s first round of interviews this week. He had also been targeted by other teams, including the Boston Celtics, as an assistant coach.
Redick is part of a pool of over a dozen candidates interviewed by the Raptors, including Golden State Warriors assistant Kenny Atkinson, Milwaukee Bucks assistant Charles Lee, Phoenix Suns assistant Kevin Young, San Antonio Spurs assistant Mitch Johnson, Sacramento Kings assistant Jordi Fernandez, Memphis Grizzlies assistant Darko Rajakovic, Las Vegas Aces coach Becky Hammon, and current Raptors assistant Adrian Griffin.
The Toronto Raptors are searching for a new head coach after parting ways with former coach Nick Nurse on April 21. Nurse had led the Raptors to an NBA championship in 2019. However, the team finished the 2021-2022 NBA season with a 41-41 record, failing to make the playoffs. The Raptors are now on the hunt for a coach who can help the team return to its former glory.
Redick had a successful 15-year career in the NBA, averaging 12.8 points per game while playing for six different teams. In addition, he was named the NCAA’s 2006 national player of the year while playing for Duke University.
