Former Notre Dame Fighting Irish longtime head coach Mike Brey is set to join Quin Snyder’s coaching staff in the Atlanta Hawks next season, Tom Noie of the South Bend Tribune reports Monday.

Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, it remains yet to be seen what will be the exact role of Brey under Snyder. The 64-year-old coach paid a visit to the Atlanta camp last March.

Both Snyder and Brey hold the familiarity with each other. Brey was an assistant for the Duke Blue Devils when Snyder was suiting up for the collegiate program from 1985 to 1989.

As such, Brey can only add another coaching pedigree to the Hawks as he lands in the NBA. Throughout his 28-year head coaching career in college, he tallied a .637 win rate (582-332) for nearly a thousand games of play.

He led the Fighting Irish to 13 seasons of appearance in the NCAA Tournament, which includes a back-to-back trip to the Elite Eight in 2015 and 2016.

After 23 years, Brey announced his resignation as the team’s head coach following the 2022-23 season but stated that his interest remains the same to still be on the sidelines.

The Hawks are currently facing the Boston Celtics in a first-round matchup of the 2023 Playoffs. The club is down 0-1 as the series heads for the Game on Tuesday.
