Andre Drummond made headlines recently after voicing out his intent to take a social media break to focus on his mental wellness.
And on Sunday, the Chicago Bulls veteran further delivered uplifting words about mental health.
“We’re looked at as superheroes, that nothing really bothers us and we don’t have a life outside the game,” Drummond said, per NBC Sports. “That’s what people fail to understand, that we do have personal lives outside of the game. And it becomes taxing at times. And that superhero cape we have on has to come off at some point in time.
“It’s okay to ask for help. It’s okay to feel. It’s okay to be emotional. We’re all men, but we have to be okay with having feelings.”
Drummond appeared for his second-straight game after taking a break in the Bulls’ Wednesday win against the Los Angeles Lakers, as the club posted a 23-point rally to outlast the Memphis Grizzlies on weekend, 128-107.
The big man is thankful for the support that he has been receiving after inking his Twitter post for a social media hiatus. But now, as he is finally back, he is determined to help the Bulls to still claw for a postseason spot.
“Everybody was there for me,” he said. “Nobody really knew what was going on. I was dealing with a lot mentally and I had to take some time away to really clear my mind and address some things that I’d been neglecting for awhile. And I feel OK.
“I obviously still have a lot of work to do with my mental. But we have a job to do. And that’s to win basketball games and get to the playoffs. So I’m back and ready to play. The stuff personally I can take care of when the time comes. But I still have a job to do.”
Drummond further gave credit to the Bulls and his teammates for helping him in the hardships he is facing in his personal endeavors.
“Being around people who care about me has been really beneficial for me,” he said. “Obviously, being around my teammates have been a great help for me too. It’s great to be back and to play the game of basketball. I’m grateful to be here.”
