Last season the Kings traded for Domantas Sabonis expecting him to become one of the centerpieces for the team going forward.

The 26-year-old Lithuanian center has met those expectations thus far. This season he is averaging a double-double and also became an NBA All-Star for the third time in his career.

In addition, team-wise Sacramento is doing well. The Kings are third in the Western Conference – much higher than expected.

The player is happy with where he is and would like to stay with the team. At the same time he understands that not all is in his hands. He has one more year left on his current contract.

“Obviously, I love it here. Everyone knows that,” Sabonis said, per Sam Amick of The Athletic. “But like we just saw at the trade deadline with the Phoenix trade, guys who you think are going to be there for a long time get traded. So the player can say all he wants, but sometimes it’s not you in the person’s hands, you know?”

This season Sabonis is averaging 18.8 points, 12.3 rebounds and 6.9 assists in 34.6 minutes per game.
