LeBron James on breaking scoring record: “I’ve never even like set a goal of doing it”

With 37,062 career points LeBron James is the second all-time scorer in the NBA. Above him is only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar who scored 38,387 points over a 20-year career.

If James stays healthy this season, he is expected to overtake Abdul-Jabbar and become an all-time leading scorer. Last season LeBron scored 1,695 points.

However, he missed a part of the regular season due to injuries and played just 56 games. If the Lakers superstar keeps a similar scoring pace that he had last year, he could miss some games and still break the scoring record.

While some sports analysts such as Skip Bayless criticize James for not admitting that he is chasing the record, the player himself says ‘it makes zero sense’ to him.

Via Dan Woike of Los Angeles Times:

“It’s a huge thing, I believe,” James told The Times. “I think it’s one of the most sought-after records in sports. And me personally, I’ve never even like set a goal of doing it. It makes zero sense to me. But it’s something that’s bigger, and bigger than people think.”
