Ben Simmons reportedly reconsidering holdout following $360,000 fine

The disgruntled point guard just might have a change of heart.

Ben Simmons could be reconsidering his stance as it pertains to showing up for the Philadelphia 76ers following a fine of around $360,000 for missing Monday’s preseason game against the Toronto Raptors.

The point guard has made it blatantly clear that he has no desire to ever suit up for Philadelphia again, though it’s set to cost him millions. But, according to Philly Voice’s Kyle Neubeck, “the financial significance of holding out is starting to take hold in Simmons’ camp” after he was fined “roughly $360,000.”

Neubeck’s report adds that “Simmons’ representation had another discussion with the players association in which it was reiterated they would be unable to recoup the money being deducted from the $8.25 million sitting in escrow, sources say, and it was communicated to the Sixers that these early fines were perhaps higher than they expected.”

Per Tim Bontemps and Bobby marks of ESPN, the player stands to lose $1.4 million in fines if he misses all four games and will not be able to get that money back if he does not agree to a settlement with the team. He will lose around $7.2 million if he misses the first month of the season and, even if he is traded, his new team won’t be paying him any money he lost due to fines.
