Rajon Rondo becoming a free agent changed the plans for the Los Angeles Lakers. According to Jon Krawczynski, the team was strongly considering signing Isaiah Thomas before Rondo became available.
The Lakers worked out Thomas earlier this summer as they were looking for another point guard to fill the final available roster spot. Since Rondo became a free agent, the 17-time NBA champions preferred to sign him instead of Thomas. Rondo was a part of 2020 Lakers team that brought home a title.
