Pelicans’ president blames NBA officials for Zion Williamson’s injury

Zion Williamson is out indefinitely with a hand injury and New Orleans Pelicans’ president of basketball operations David Griffin is blaming the NBA officials.

In a frustrated media session Friday, Griffin blamed NBA referees for failing to protect the young superstar, adding that the forward is now hurt because he is “mauled” in the paint regularly and nothing is done about it.

Williamson has been one of the most impactful players inside the paint this season shooting 61 percent from the field on 17 attempts per game, having the seventh best percentage among forwards in the NBA.

With Williamson out, the Pelicans’ hopes for a playoff appearance minimized with just a handful of games remaining in the regular season.
