Zion Williamson out indefinitely

New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson has a fractured left ring finger and will be sidelined indefinitely, the team announced.

A CT scan revealed the injury and a treatment plan and timetable for his return to play will be determined upon further evaluation.

General manager David Griffin held a press conference after the news was announced and voiced his displeasure with how Williamson is being officiated, saying the way he’s been officiated has encouraged teams to play more physically against him in the paint, via Will Guillory of The Athletic.

Griffin also mentioned that he and the organization take blame for not bringing the appropriate sense of urgency to the league about the situation regarding contact to Williamson.

This is a big loss for the Pelicans who are also without Brandon Ingram due to a left, low-ankle sprain.

The team currently sits at 30-36, 1.5 games behind the San Antonio Spurs for the last play-in spot in the Western Conference.

In 61 games, Williamson, 20, is averaging 27.0 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game, while shooting 61.1 percent from the field.
