The time is running out for the NBA and the NBA Players Association to decide on the start date of the next season. The league reportedly prefers starting the season on December 22, a little over two months since the last Finals game.

Meanwhile, the players are leaning towards the MLK Day start (January 18). The decision is not only about how much time the players will have to rest after the 2019-2020 season which has just ended.

Starting in January would mean shorter season and major financial repercussions as there will be less games and less revenue.

The Los Angeles Lakers free agent Jared Dudley believes that it only makes sense to start the season before Christmas due to the loss that would be sustained otherwise.

“I know they’re meeting with different teams. We’ll vote on it. But to be honest with you, there’s no real vote. No one’s playing 55 games. We got to play 72. It’s the money thing. We’ll most likely be on [December] 22nd,” Dudley told Frank Isola on SiriusXM NBA Radio.
