As it looks like, Girona will be in due to Badalona's card from the ACB.
It means that Barca is out, unless they'll reach the title.

Real Madrid has contract with Euroleague ? I thought, only Unicaja Malaga and TAU Ceramica were contracted to Euroleague for 3 years. <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' />

No, Real hasn't, but they finished at the top spot in the regular season, and this what did make them in EL next season.

I'm gonna try to watch some games in 08/09.

situation for now:
Spain: (5) - Tau, Barcelona, Unicaja, Joventut, Real
Italy: (4) - Siena, Roma, Avellino, Milano
Greece: (3) - Panathinaikos, Olympiakos, Panionios
Turkey: (2) - Ulker, Efes
France: (2) - Nancy/Roanne, Le Man
Lithuania (1) - Zargilis
Germany(1) - ALBA/Bonn
Croatia (1) - Cibona
Russia (1) - CSKA
Izrael (1) - Maccabi
Slovenia (1) - Olimpia
Serbia (1) - Partizan/Hemofarm
Poland (1) - Prokom
my opinion is that France don't deserve 2 teams, also Italy does't deserve to have 4 teams. their club basketball level is not high like it was few years ago. Rytas deservs to be in and also Russia deservs to have at least 2 if not 3 teams

Yeah, totally agree with you on this one. It looks like Avellino might not be playing in EL next season as they don't large enough arena. They would have to find another place to play their home games so there is a possibility to see one team invited from another country.

I posted the following and in the topic about the french league..
Can i ask something?!
Does Marc Salyers, the ''hottest'' player of the first stages of Euroleague, have another year of contract with Roanne?! <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' />
Thank you..
P.S. Are there any rumours for him?!

Yeah, that's the list of the teams. Unfortunatelly we see no changes in number of teams from Italy or France.

The new format is better in my opinion. But we still see 4 Italian and two French teams <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thudown.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

i think the old format old the regular season stage was better. we were watching more ganes , 14 games, almost a national championship. every week dramatical minutes on tv or arena. no need to use this -uleb cup like- format. actually it also had changed before <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' /> .
in addition to this , if there were dynamo moskow, unics kazan, lietuvos rytas instead of two italian and one french team in the competition, we would have the chance of reaching one of the most exciting season of euroleague history ever.
by the way, second of uleb cup (akasvayu girona), doesnt have the right of playing in euroleague automatically? or i confused <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bag.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' />

Only the winner goes to Euroleague. Runner-up could get the ticket only if the winner qualifies through national championship. As it happened with Rytas when Real Madrid won ULEB Cup and Spanish league.

I agree with the thumb down... Russia should definitely get more spots as their teams introduce bigger budgets (and stronger players.)

One of the main reasons why Euroleague don't want more Russian teams is that they get poor attendances. Even CSKA Moscow can't fill their arena. General interest in basketball is not as high as it should be. On the other attendances could increase if the teams play in Euroleague against famous clubs. But when Dynamo played in Euroleague I saw some of their home games in half empty arena.

It could be argued that they draw more crowd on the away games (mostly because of their rosters) but a good point nonetheless.
