Greece 76
Bosnia 67
The top scorers for us were Zisis and Calathes with 13 points. Calathes also had 7 rebounds.
Also, Koufos finished the game with double-double(10pts-10reb)!

We were basically playing against ourselves, we performed quite shakily, with lots of turnovers. Still, we played with solid heart and team cohesion and were able this way to cover our weaknesses. Bosnia wasn't anything of a serious team, and we were lucky to be playing with a small team like that so that we could start rolling out our defensive and offensive strategies in real-game time situations. We're still not knocking back the 3's like we should, and I really can't excuse our missed free throws YET AGAIN. WTF is wrong with Hellas players and free throws? I certainly cannot excuse a guard to miss free throws, especially when they are of experienced caliber like Nikos Zisis...

I can't deal with the fact that Zisis will have the ball in his hands when the games will on the edge. <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thudown.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> HE CAN'T.
Generally I'm optimistic! <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
Koufos and Calathes were great! Bramos and Bourousis were great as well! <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

We have to get stronger on our defensive rebounding. It's not ailing, but we really need to box out even harder to not give a single chance to the opponent to make second attempts of attack. Bosnia did this today without having a formidable front line whatsoever. We just have to hustle non-stop until the end of that final game buzzer really.
Still, I'm thankful we have the opponents that we do in our group, which is ideal for a stretching session for our younger guys to get some confidence behind them, and to not at least be afraid of their own worst selves. Xanthopoulos was also positive too, and let's not forget Papanikolaou who's already playing like he's a team vet <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/crazy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' />

Nowitzki and Kaman were too much.. Especially when Eliyahu is bad and Halperin is shit.. Pnini can't win by himself.
91-64 is not a loss, it's a rape.

I watched this game, nothing too special they're just built as our nightmare match-up. Teams like Serbia with a much more serious frontline especially on the defensive end will be able to stop Kaman and do much better job on Dirk than Eliyahu did, they've got a deadly frontline offensively, we've got a weak frontline defensively that should explain the murder.
Just to make it clear, I don't think Germany isn't a great team but I'm just saying-don't let the huge margin confuse you. Not many teams' weaknesses fit Germany as perfect as the Israeli weaknesses fit them.

First why are the refs allowing so much traveling?? In Euroleague there is less traveling! It's the first day so maybe I shouldn't be so hard on the favorites. Anyways......
Group A
Spain - Poland Close game! ( Is Poland really this good or is Spain soft?? Is Spain overrated?)
Turkey - Portugal ( Predictable[/<img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
[b]Lithuania - Great Britain ( I have a mixed opinion. Lietuva is overrated and GB is underrated. Maybe both..)
Group B
Serbia - Italy ( Serbia impressed me with there chemistry and coaching. Italy impressed me with there talent. They have 5 good players. All they lack is chemistry. )
France - Latvia
Germany - Israel ( Dirk is one of the best players in the world. Kaman played like an animal. Both are USA citizens! USA USA USA!)
Group C
Montenegro - FYROM ( Bo is on a losing streak)
Greece - Bosnia & Herzegovina ( Why was this game so close??)
Croatia - Finland ( Croats are getting stronger year after year! If croatia meets Serbia there will be fireworks!)
Group D
Belgium - Georgia
Slovenia - Bulgaria
Russia - Ukraine

Wow Tepic actually having a good game?! What has the world come to <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rofl3.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' />
Pretty pathetic performance for Croatia <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' />
Great Britain shouldn't perhaps be as underrated as it has been. I guess Javtokas's tight fashion sleeves did the trick in the end <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' />
Spain, Russia and France had some harder wins too, which goes to show that the premiere is never a walk in the park for anyone. As the games progress, I hope we will see better performances <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' />

I only had the chance to watch Lithuania, although I am hoping to catch some highlights of the other games. Lithuania had an atrocious third quarter. Songaila had all 5 of Lithuania's points.
I still have no idea what Jankunas is doing on the roster. How is he more valuable than Gecevicius would have been? Lithuania is one injury to Kaukenas away from being extremely vulnerable at the 2. Saras was played really well today, there were flashes of the old Saras.

What did you think of GB? Do you think they could have pulled off a win today if Pops and Ben Gordon had been on the roster? How was the environment. The crowd looked thin on TV.

It's a bit late for me to comment knowing how they got destroyed by Turkey today. I think that Clark and Reinking in particular had a huge game and really impressed. The UK played a lot better than many expected but we cannot forget that Lithuania was also god awful in the third quarter when they only managed to score 5 points. It's tough to play that bad for a quarter and still win. Gordon and Pops would certainly help the UK but I just don't see the depth on the UK team to be able to compete.
To me, the UK at full strength is a poor man's Dominican Republic. I don't think that either team has the depth to play a larger role than spoilers in a major tournament; however, they have enough talent to keep the power teams on their toes.
Regarding the environment, I haven't gone to the games yet. I'm still in the states trying to avoid all basketball communication until I can watch the games on ESPN3 after work. I have tickets to the first set of quarterfinals in Kaunas.
I can say that Cido Arena is a stupid layout. They have desirable seats set up for the media and then that silly track running around the arena that makes it look like nobody is there. In reality, you pretty much have to sell your first born into slavery to get a ticket to the Lithaunian games.
