XALAPA (LNBP/ACB/2010 FIBA World Championship) - Gustavo Ayon has conquered Mexico with Halcones UV Xalapa. Now the 2.06m center is crossing the Atlantic Ocean to link up with Alta Gestion Fuenlabrada in Spain's ACB.



The Mexico international last week capped a magnificent season by leading Xalapa to the LNBP title.



The Tepic-born star signed off in Game 6 of the play-off finals with 24 points and 20 rebounds as Xalapa, the runners-up in this year's FIBA Americas League, won 94-90 in overtime over Soles de Mexicali to clinch a 4-2 series victory.



It marked their second successive Mexican title.



"I say goodbye with a title, like it should be, like the great ones do," Ayon said.



"I am happy but have a lot of mixed feelings. I am happy for winning, but I am sad to leave these fans, these people who have supported me and given me the confidence to go out and play every night.



"I am grateful to everyone - the directors, my friends; now comes the time to continue working and to try to come back to visit and come back as a winner."



Ayon, 23, averaged 13.1 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists for Halcones UV Xalapa in the LNBP finals.



He put pen to paper on a four-year contract with Fuenlabrada in February.



A member of the Mexico side at the 2007 FIBA Americas Championship, Ayon will represent his country again this summer when they host prestigious event that serves as a qualifying tournament for the 2010 FIBA World Championship.



His club side, Xalapa, said in a statement: "From Mexico, we wish him a lot of luck on this new journey he is embarking on. For his human and professional qualities, we are certain that he will be successful."
