The Golden State Warriors gave up D’Angelo Russell and Glenn Robinson III in the trade deadline last February. The “Dubs” sent Robinson and Alec Burks in Philadelphia to acquire future draft picks, while they gave up Russell in exchange for Andrew Wiggins and a future first-rounder.
Despite his scoring ability, no one seemed upset on trading Russell, as his fit was at least questionable with Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson in the same team. On the other hand, the Warriors players were not so sure about giving up Glenn Robinson III, as he could be an rotational piece for the team next season.
According to San Fransisco Chronicle’s Conor Letourneau:
“One league source told The Chronicle that many on the team were far more upset about Robinson being traded than with D’Angelo Russell getting dealt to Minnesota the next day. In addition to being a steadying locker-room presence, Robinson was an above-average defender who could knock down the open 3-pointer and find open driving lanes.”
Robinson is going to test the market in the 2020-21 and explore various possibilities as he said in his interview with NBC Sports in March, just a few days before NBA’s shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“I may just explore all options possible,” Robinson said per Sports Illustrated, claiming that he won’t rule out the possibility to return in the Bay Area.
“Would I rule it out? Not with this organization. They were really great to me, and like I said, really changed my career, so it’s no bad feelings, no hard love for Golden State.”
