Olympic draw to be held on Monday

FIBA will hold its first Central Board meeting of 2012, culminating on Monday morning with the men’s and women’s Olympic basketball draw in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

The draw will take place at the Auditorium of the Brazilian Olympic Committee at 11:00 local time (16:00 CET), the draw will be shown live on FIBATV.

So far, there are nine teams already through to the basketball tournament which begins on July 28th and runs through to August 12th. Hosts Great Britain and world champions USA are joined by Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, France, Spain and Tunisia.

There will be three additional teams added after the Olympic Qualifying Tournament which begins July 2nd to July 8th, to be held in Caracas, Venezuela.

For the women’s draw, hosts Great Britain and world champions USA will be joined by Angola, Australia, Brazil, China and Russia. There will be five other nations added following the Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Women which begins June 25th and that will run through to July 1st. The week-long event will be held in Ankara, Turkey.

There are 91 days until the start of the basketball tournament at London 2012.
