Montepaschi Siena improved its chances of topping Group D with a 67-63 road win over Galatasaray.

The win improves Siena to 6-2, while Galatasaray drop to 3-5 but the Turkish side will qualify to the Top 16 if they beat Union Olimpija next week.

David Andersen led all scorers with 18 points for the victors, supported by 17 points from Igor Rakocevic. Laka Lakovic scored 15 for Galatasaray.

In what was a back-and-forth battle, Andersen hit eight points in the final two minutes as Montepaschi held their ground defensively for the win.

Brose Baskets recorded a vital 90-79 win in Malaga over Unicaja to stay alive for qualification to the Top 16.

The hosts were never able to recover from a 20-2 run from the German side in the second quarter that effectively ended the game as a contest. Joel Freeland, who led Unicaja with 17 points looked to have got Malaga back into the game, but Julius Jenkins and Casey Jacobsen combined to keep Brose’s lead safe.

Jenkins led all scorers for the visitors with 23 points.

“It was one of our worst games this season,” Unicaja coach Chus Mateo said. “There are no excuses. Brose Baskets played better than us and thheir defence simply shut us down.”

Playing for pride, Belgacom Spirou defeated Partizan 84-79 in Charleroi, putting the Serbian side’s place in the Top 16 on hold.

Partizan are 4-4 after this loss. A win would of sealed their spot in the next round. Spirou improve to 2-6, but are out.

Demond Mallet led Spirou with 22 points, Acie equalled Mallet’s total for Partizan.

Despite a career high 32 points for Mirza Teletovic, it wasn’t enough as Caja Laboral went down 84-82 away at Olympiacos.

Vassilis Spanoulis made the game safe, by hitting both his free-throws in the final minute, as the Greeks were 84-79 ahead. Spanish international, Fernando San Emeterio hit five points in quick succession for the visitors, but it wasn’t enough.

Elsewhere, there were wins for the Barcelona and Real Madrid. Barca kept their undfeated streak in place with 63-50 success over Unics Kazan. Juan Carlos Navarro led the victors with 13 points.

Real Madrid scored a comfortable 88-64 win over Maccabi Electra. Nikola Mirotic hit 26 points, which included four three-pointers.
