Who is who: Alfa Fasengas

Alfa Fasengas is reported to be the latest acquisition of Panathinaikos. So far so good. Just one question: who on earth is Alfa Fasengas??? Let’s have a look at this player whose name we’ve never heard of before today.

Alfa Agkimpou Ntiallo Fasengas, as his name is registered in FIBA, was born 13/10/1992 in Guinea. His father is Greek and his mother from Guinea. He came to Greece one year ago and was only speaking French. He recently acquired a Greek passport and is now eligible to play for Greece.

He managed to learn Greek and English since then and he is residing in Larissa, the city that has produced players like Dimos Dikoudis and Vassilis Spanoulis.

Fasengas’ first contact with the orange ball came when he was almost 17, some 11 months back!! During the last months he was training with Olympia Larissa, where Panathinaikos picked him up.

Last Tuesday Fasengas took part in the training of the U18 Greek NT for the first time and left everybody speechless. No wonder as he is 210cm and has a wingspan of 227cm! And as reported he is still growing!! In addition to that his vertical jump is reported to be a whole 72cm.

Now Fasengas will travel to Lithuania to have his first official matches with the Greek NT in the U18 Eurobasket held in the Baltic country.

You may say that 17 is too old to start playing basketball. But here’s another name that you may have heard of and started playing basketball at 18: Yannis Bouroussis.
