Team USA head coach Gregg Popovich refused to make a response to comments of Sasa Djordjevic, Serbia head coach, about the hard time that the Americans will have if they face Serbia in FIBA World Cup.

Djordjevic was quoted saying “Let’s let them [Team USA] play their basketball and we will play ours and if we meet, may God help them”.

When asked by media to respond, Popovich only said: “People will talk but it’s usually not something I respond to.”

Popovich, who himself has Serbian roots, also admitted that Djordjevic was a hero in Europe during his playing years and is doing a tremendous job as a head coach. Under Djordjevic Serbia played in three major tournament finals – EuroBasket, Olympics and World Cup – eventually losing all of them.

Having all of their best players on the national team this year, Serbia is widely regarding as the main contender to challenge reigning champions USA to the gold medal. Especially, with so many stars refusing a Team USA invite.
