Giorgos Vasileiadis, Minister of Sports in Greece, addressed the situation regarding the presence of foreign referees in the Greek Basket League.

Here is what Vasileiadis told the Athenian-Macedonian News Agency:

“I asked the aid of International Federations. FIBA didn’t respond. The minister can’t impose foreign referees. He can ask for them, he can diligently ask for them and I did that and went to Switzerland and ask for this. But this wasn’t feasible.”

Olympiacos had forfeited the Greek Cup semi-final against Panathinaikos (they left at halftime) on February 13.

After that, the “Reds” stated they would not play any game against the “Greens” unless officiated by foreign referees.

Since this did not happen, they forfeited Game 1 of the Greek Basket League playoffs and were relegated to the second division.
