The Union of EuroLeague Basketball referees released an official statement regarding Dimitris Giannakopoulos’ accusations.

Panathinaikos owner accused two of the referees of the match between his team and Olympiacos of betting 20.000 euros.

In addition, he then accused the “Reds” of having promised to give 20.000 euros to each of the two referees.

UEBO (Union of EuroLeague Basketball Referees) released an official statement to address the current situation.

Here is what the Union states:

“Union of Euroleague basketball referees (UEBO) expresses its absolute rejection towards the accusations made by the owner of Panathinaikos Mr. Giannakopolous against two of our members and that is why we demand that the veracity of such accusations is proven and in any case we reserve the right to take legal action to protect the integrity, transparency, and professionalism of all UEBO referees.

We are not willing to accept any false accusation from any representative of any team, since, in our opinion, they have been made for the purpose of manipulating and conditioning the work of the referees, and to continue with the unproven accusations, to make their decisions far harder which could affect the competition.

UEBO Board of directors”
