Sevenoaks Suns have defended their WBBL Playoff title and secured the league and post-season double by beating Leicester Riders 69-44 at the O2 Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Catherine Carr led all scorers for the victorious Suns with 19 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and she rightfully claimed the game’s MVP honours to add to her regular season award.

Holly Winterburn paced Leicester with 12 points but had no support from her team-mates as the WBBL Trophy winners end their camapign with a losing effort

In a scrappy affair, where neither team managed to register a point for the first three minutes, reigning league champion, Sevenoaks slowly gained the upper hand against a Riders team that found no joy from anywhere on the floor as they shot just 23 percent form the field in the first half, allowing the Suns ten second chance points as the latter took a commanding 38-20 lead at the half.

Any hopes of a Leicester revival after the break unfortunately never came as Sevenoaks continued to bully their midlands rivals inside, securing several offensive rebounds as they out-rebounded Riders 52-34 and scoring 14 second chance points.

Sevenoaks’ lead eventually peaked at 29 points, en route to a comfortable win as Leicester never led, and never really got going.
