Felipe Reyes regained his title as the EuroLeague career rebounding king when he collected the 1,604th rebound of his career early in the fourth quarter of his team’s 80-86 loss to Khimki Moscow Region on Thursday night at WiZink Center.
Reyes had lost his crown to Ioannis Bourousis late last season, but with 7 rebounds on Thursday returned to the top spot. The 37-year-old big man has played all but one of his 14 EuroLeague seasons with Madrid; he debuted in the competition with Estudiantes in 2000-01.
Reyes, who is second on the all-time list with 292 EuroLeague appearances, is second in career free throws made (851), fifth in scoring (2,645 points) and 14thin steals (203).
This feat is the latest in a career full of famous accomplishments for Reyes, who won the 2015 EuroLeague and 2007 EuroCup with Madrid. A 2014-15 All-EuroLeague First Team selection, Reyes also has five Spanish League crowns and five Copa del Reys with Los Blancos.
As a member of the Spanish national team, Reyes won the 2006 World Championship and won the gold medals at the 2009, 2011 and 2015 European Championships. He also owns a pair of Olympic silver medals, three more EuroBasket silvers and one EuroBasket bronze.
