Adam Wojcik passes away at 47

Polish basketball legend Adam Wojcik has passed away after a long battle with leukaemia. He was 47-years-old.

Wojcik was undoubtedly one of Polish basketball’s most decorated players and is the all-time leading scorer of the Polish PLK with 10,087 points scored.

The big man won 13 domestic titles with 12 of those coming in the homeland, where Wojcik enjoyed superstar status. He also won three Polish league and Finals MVP awards, with the latest of those accolades coming in 2005.

He also enjoyed spells in Spain and Greece, with the latter seeing Wojcik selected to the Greek All-Star Game in 2002.

Until the emergence of Marcin Gortat, Wojcik was by far the most important player of Polish basketball in recent years.

It is expected that there will be a moment of silence in Warsaw today where Poland are playing in a four-team tournament, in preparation for Eurobasket involving Great Britain, Israel and Hungary.
