Maccabi score vital win on the road, EuroLeague Thursday round up

Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv secured a vital 80-73 road over Olympiacos as they improve to 5-4 in the EuroLeague.

DJ Seeley posted a season-high 19 points as the Israeli side managed to keep the hosts at bay for the majority of the contest.

“We just came out here and played aggressive on defence from the jump and we set the tone for the game,” Seeley said. “We know we could play offense, but we struggled on defence in the beginning of the season.

“We all just got together and said the key to winning is defence, because we got a lot of players that can score, so we need to clamp down on defence.”

Zalgiris set season-highs with 11 three-pointers and 19 offensive rebounds, plus they were a near-perfect 17/18 from the free throw line.

The win took the EuroLeague runner-up’s record to 6-3, while Milan slipped to 4-5.

A powerful final quarter was the key, with Fenerbahce restricting Milan to just 7 points in the final 10 minutes to snap a two-game losing run on the road.

Kostas Sloukas was the outstanding performer, combining a game-high 18 points with seven rebounds and three assists.
