Oklahoma City Thunder guard Cason Wallace has agreed to a five-year, $139 million rookie-scale contract extension, Shams Charania reported on Sunday, October 18.
Wallace’s agents, Jeff Schwartz, Max Lipsett and Marcus Monk of Excel Sports Management, confirmed the agreement to Charania. The extension allows Oklahoma City to secure the 22-year-old guard before he could have entered restricted free agency next summer.
“Critical extension for the Thunder to lock in Wallace ahead of restricted free agency next summer — now having their starting five all under contract for several years,” Charania wrote.
Wallace is coming off an All-Defensive season in which he established himself as one of the NBA’s most productive defenders. He led the league in total steals and deflections last season and ranked third in steals per game in each of the previous two seasons.
The guard earned a place on the All-Defensive Second Team and finished seventh in Defensive Player of the Year voting after starting 58 of his 77 regular-season appearances in 2025-26.
Wallace averaged 8.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.9 steals in 26.6 minutes per game. He shot 43.2% from the field and 35.1% from three-point range.
The extension comes as Oklahoma City prepares to give Wallace a larger role following an offseason that saw the Thunder trade Lu Dort, Isaiah Joe and Aaron Wiggins. Those departures leave the guard with an opportunity to take on more responsibility on both ends of the floor.
Dort provided physical perimeter defense, while Joe and Wiggins contributed three-point shooting. Wallace has demonstrated defensive value, but his offensive development will be important as he takes on a bigger role with the reigning Western Conference finalists.
His three-point percentage has declined since his rookie season, when he shot 41.9% from beyond the arc in 2023-24. He followed that with 35.6% in his second season and 35.1% last year.
