Dillon Brooks took a shot at former Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant amid a social media exchange sparked by Suns owner Matt Ishbia’s comments about the team’s decision to acquire the star forward.
Ishbia reflected on Phoenix’s trade for Durant, saying, “I kind of just threw money at the problem… Bringing in super talented players like Kevin Durant doesn’t necessarily lead to championships.”
Durant responded on X, pushing back against the suggestion that his arrival failed to deliver the desired results.
“#blameKD even though KD stayed on top of his game at 36 and got u back this ‘culture’ you love so much. Aye, Matthew acts like I got arrested for a DUI or sumn. Back to threads 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂,” Durant wrote.
Brooks then joined the exchange with a pointed message aimed at Durant’s time in Phoenix.
“Thanks Matt for cleaning up that stench in the locker room before I came #Culture,” Brooks wrote, in an Instagram post.
Brooks joined the Suns in the 2025 offseason trade that sent Durant to the Houston Rockets. In 56 games for Phoenix during the 2025-26 season, Brooks averaged 20.2 points and 3.6 rebounds while shooting 43.5% from the field and 34.4% from three-point range.
Durant, meanwhile, played 62 games for Phoenix in 2024-25, averaging 26.6 points, six rebounds and 4.2 assists while shooting 52.7% from the field and 43% from beyond the arc. He was traded to the Houston Rockets in the 2025 offseason and averaged 26 points per game in 78 appearances during the 2025-26 campaign.
Phoenix’s decision to trade for Durant was intended to position the franchise for a championship run, but the team ultimately moved on from the former MVP.
