Besiktas Istanbul overcame a 28-point collapse to defeat FC Bayern Munich 95-87 at home on Friday, October 16, earning its first home victory of the 2026-27 EuroLeague season.
The Turkish side appeared in complete control after building a 28-point lead, but Bayern fought back to tie the game at 75-75 with six minutes remaining. Besiktas recovered in the closing stretch to secure the win at Turkcell Basketball Development Center.
Jaylen Nowell led Besiktas with 21 points and four assists, setting a new personal EuroLeague scoring high in his debut season in the competition. Scottie Wilbekin added 20 points, including 12 in the final six minutes, to help the hosts regain control after Bayern’s comeback.
Besiktas started strongly after an 18-point road loss to Hapoel IBI Tel Aviv earlier in the double-game week. The hosts led 26-17 after the first quarter and extended their advantage to 53-35 at halftime.
Their first-half shooting was a major factor. Besiktas made nine three-pointers before the break, setting a club record for a first half in the EuroLeague and matching its best mark for any half. The team finished 14-of-30 from beyond the arc, shooting 46.7%.
Bayern responded after halftime, outscoring Besiktas 23-16 in the third quarter before continuing its rally in the fourth. The visitors eventually erased the deficit and tied the contest at 75-75, threatening to turn the game into another major comeback after Valencia and Olympiacos had produced a 28-point turnaround earlier in the week.
Wilbekin then delivered when Besiktas needed him most, scoring 12 points down the stretch. Nowell’s scoring and the hosts’ late response ensured that Bayern’s rally would not result in a second collapse from a 28-point advantage.
Besiktas also made the difference defensively, holding Bayern to just four three-pointers on 21 attempts. Andi Obst, one of the visitors’ main perimeter threats, finished with five points and went 0-for-3 from long range.
Ante Zizic contributed 13 points on perfect two-point shooting, making all five of his attempts. Berk Ugurlu added five points and four assists, while Besiktas forced 13 turnovers and converted them into 22 points.
The victory moved Besiktas to 3-3 after six EuroLeague games, while Bayern fell to 2-4. Besiktas will visit Anadolu Efes in an Istanbul derby next Thursday, while Bayern hosts Dubai Basketball on the same day.
