Virtus Bologna continued its recovery in the EuroLeague with an 87-94 victory over FC Bayern Munich on Thursday at SAP Garden, securing its first road win of the 2026-27 campaign and improving to 2-2.
After edging Olympiacos Piraeus last week, Virtus delivered another important result behind Wendell Moore’s 20 points and Bo Klintman’s 15 off the bench. Marcus Carr scored 13 points, including seven in the final 74 seconds, to help the Italian side withstand Bayern’s late push.
Virtus established control early, scoring 35 points in the first quarter and building a 14-point advantage. Moore and Klintman each scored seven points during a 2-18 run that put the visitors ahead 9-20. Virtus made six three-pointers in the opening period to take a 21-35 lead into the second quarter.
Bayern responded with a 12-3 surge to reduce the deficit to 33-38, but Virtus maintained its offensive production and led 43-52 at halftime. The visitors shot 57.6% on two-point attempts and converted 23 of 28 free throws, helping them offset a 35.5% mark from three-point range.
The German team continued to fight after the break, cutting the gap to three points before Virtus rebuilt a 12-point lead at 52-64. The visitors entered the fourth quarter ahead 68-75, but Bayern remained within striking distance as the game approached its final two minutes.
Carr then delivered in the decisive moments. After hitting the game-winner against Olympiacos the previous week, the guard knocked down a three-pointer, scored on a jumper in the lane and converted two free throws during the final 74 seconds to secure the road victory.
Bayern dropped to 1-3 after losing three consecutive games, including two at home. Oscar da Silva and Duane Washington scored 18 points apiece, while Marjon Beauchamp added 15. However, Bayern’s slow start proved costly.
Virtus visits Paris Basketball next Wednesday, while Bayern travels to Anadolu Efes on the same day.
