Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Doncic believes European basketball should have one leading competition rather than several leagues operating alongside each other.
The Slovenian guard expressed concerns about the potential introduction of NBA Europe during an interview with Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix.
With EuroLeague and EuroCup already established, Doncic questioned how another major competition would fit into the existing structure.
“There’s EuroLeague, EuroCup and then NBA Europe,” the player said. “It is going to be three leagues. That’s kind of hard to work. There should be one league. That’s how it works.”
The NBA is currently developing plans for a new European competition while holding discussions with EuroLeague over a possible partnership.
However, the two organizations have yet to reach an agreement, raising questions about whether NBA Europe could operate independently.
Doncic has personal experience with European basketball, having won the EuroLeague championship with Real Madrid in 2018 before joining the NBA.
