Luka Doncic had some fun at Austin Reaves’ expense while discussing his growing interest in golf during an interview with Golf Channel’s Rich Lerner.
Asked whether Reaves offers him tips on the course, the Lakers star jokingly suggested his teammate has another reason for staying quiet.
“He’s afraid that I’m going to be better than him.”
Since joining the Lakers in a blockbuster trade in February 2025, Doncic and Reaves have built a close friendship that often includes playful teasing both on and off the court.
Doncic also revealed that neither Reaves nor LeBron James initially introduced him to golf, explaining that he first became interested in the sport after visiting Top Golf.
When Lerner mentioned that Reaves plays at a strong level, Doncic couldn’t resist another joke.
“Yeah, he is a plus two. He’s OK.”
The lighthearted banter continued when Doncic was asked whether he trash-talks Reaves the same way he does opponents during NBA games.
“Yeah, also,” Doncic said. “A little bit less, but also.”
Despite the jokes, Doncic acknowledged that both Reaves and James have helped him improve his golf game.
Although he’s still relatively new to the sport, Doncic admitted he has quickly become hooked.
“There’s a lot of times I wanna do 36 holes,” Doncic said. “So it’s eight hours.”
