The USA men’s basketball side collected their Rio 2016 credentials yesterday as they settle in Brazil for what is expected to be the full two weeks of competition.

And with accreditation, comes a possibly embarrassing photograph to follow with it. And Green got hold of the pass for his Golden State Warriors team-mate Klay Thompson and immediately took a snap. Then the world wide web were soon sharing and retweeting.

But if it helps Klay, the USA will not be parading around the Olympic Village like everyone else. Like they have done since the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, they will be staying in other accommodation during the Games.

The U.S. will be staying on the cruise ship Silver Cloud during the Olympics. All the players have their own rooms as well as a games room and extra security 24 hours-a-day. The women’s team will also be staying there.

The last time the USA basketball teams stayed at the Olympic Village was at the 1998 summer games in Seoul. They were the only athletes that did not stay in the Olympic Village four years ago in London, too. But despite that, LeBron James and James Harden frequently hung out with the other athletes in the dorm-like apartments and even used the London Underground.

Via ABC Australia:

Extra security precautions surround the US squad, the cruise ships being another layer of protection for NBA talent that has proven among the most popular at any Olympics since the 1992 original “Dream Team.”

“It’s good. We live life. Like when you go home, except on a boat,” US guard Kyrie Irving said.

“I wouldn’t necessarily call it a cruise ship. It’s just a private environment for the USA basketball national team for women’s and men’s, our coaching staff.

“And then we have a cruise ship almost right next to us that has our family and friends. It’s pretty cool for me. I enjoy sitting on my balcony, kind of looking out at the water.”
