Anfernee Simons addressed his 2025-26 season in a detailed end-of-season interview on Monday, April 13, focusing heavily on injury recovery, team culture, and his upcoming free agency.
The guard described a difficult year impacted by limited availability. “Obviously being injured majority of the time isn’t great,” he said, adding that the challenge also came from adjusting while not fully active with the group.
He emphasized the difficulty of integration while sidelined. “You want to be out there getting yourself acclimated with the team,” Simons said, “and see where you fit within the group.”
Despite the setbacks, he pointed to positive internal standards. “Everybody came with a positive attitude each and every night,” he said, noting consistency within the locker room.
He expanded on that mindset, stating, “Everybody was still locked in on what needs to be done each and every night,” even in losses and difficult stretches.
Simons also highlighted the team’s film habits and accountability. “We all discuss and watch film together,” he said, referring to in-game and halftime corrections.
On free agency, he kept a measured tone while expressing openness to continuity. “It’s going to be new for me,” he said, adding, “I would love to be back here.”
He also pointed to competitive factors influencing that view. “A lot of it goes into seeing how the group carry themselves each and every day,” Simons said, “and how competitive they are.”
The guard acknowledged uncertainty while staying focused on controllables. “Obviously you never know what’s going to happen,” he said, “but I’ll be blessed if I come back here.”
Regarding his health, Simons confirmed there will be no surgical procedure. “No, I won’t need surgery,” he said, while noting ongoing recovery progress.
He added that his condition has improved in recent weeks. “I’m pretty much good,” he said, “there’s still some movement that hurts a little bit.”
Looking ahead, Simons framed his priorities around winning impact. “Winning is very important to me,” he said, stressing the importance of role flexibility.
He also added, “Whether I have to change my role or do something totally different… I’m committed to pushing myself into becoming whatever the team needs me for to win.”
His final message centered on adaptability and team success. “I think that’s the goal 100%,” he said when discussing his next career step.
